An Evaluation Study and Descriptive Memory aims to generate a concise background in order to argue the decision-making of the architectural design.
For this purpose, the study is supported with documentation provided by the owners, research in archives and documents of the Bogotá Archive, National Library, the Agustín Codazzi Geographical Institute, the District Institute of Cultural Heritage, the Secretariat's archive District Planning.
This document summarizes the history and evolution of the property located in the Quinta Camacho neighborhood in the district of Chapinero. It serves as a support for the proposed change of roof in order to ensure the conservation and good use of the property classified as a Site of Cultural Interest.
This property located in the heart of Chapinero has preserved the original roof with which it was built in 1946. However, due to construction failures and the natural dampness of the tile roofs, it has been necessary to make reinforcements that have modified the original structure.
The original poperty
The original license for the property dates from 1944. The construction is a mixture of styles, with colonial and Tudor elements. The building remains almost intact with the original materials and almost no volumetric modifications.
The original plans of the house which were used by the Municipal Public Works office in 1944 were signed by the Austrian architect Van den Essen. Thus, the construction of 1946 is attributed to him as well.
Design proposal
Despite the care and maintenance that has been done to the roof over the years, the patches at different points of the trusses have modified the forces originally thought causing stresses in the rest of the structure of the house.
The casa 6971 preserves the heritage values thanks to the fact that it maintains the syncretism with which it was designed. Elements of colonial architecture are interspersed with Tudor elements that make it a palimpsest of styles and trends. The construction preserves the composition of the facades and the materiality of the property reflects past construction values.
In order to preserve the heritage values of property, which are from the house design and not due to the elements that compose it, a new structure is proposed to replace the original structure of the roof. Additionally, it is proposed that to recover the historical values it is necessary to abide by the plans of the original license and thus be faithful to the design with which the house was conceived.
Basic history of the site
Current state of the inside of thegable roof
Due to the multiple interventions that have been made in order to maintain the roof, the functions of the structural elements have been modified. The trusses have lost both stability and functionality affecting the structure of the house. The materials used in these modifications are not the same as the originals, also modifying the appearance of the trusses.
